Some of the most beautiful places in Europe
Even if it’s not the largest continent, Europe has a lot to offer visitors from all over the world. Along with luxurious beaches, limestone cliffs, sleepy little towns, and fields of lavender, it also offers some of the best mountain views in the world. This list of the most beautiful places in Europe is far from complete, but hopefully it will give you some ideas for places to visit. Check out some of the most beautiful places in Europe.
1. Provence, France
In addition to lavender fields that stretch over the horizon, Michelin-star cuisine, picturesque streets, art studios, mountain passes and the glittering Mediterranean Sea, Provence stands out in France.
2. Hallstatt, Austria
The picturesque surroundings of an alpine lake, a beautiful town and a majestic view make this place so attractive. Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also known for its ancient salt mine with the oldest wooden staircase in Europe. This staircase is over 3000 years old. For those who follow Rick Steeves, this is one of his top travel destinations in Austria.
3. Trolltunga, Norway
Every corner of this place undoes the next. Trolltunga is about 700 m above Lake Ringedalsvatnet and is one of the most spectacular and picturesque cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is on the western edge of the Hardangervidda Plateau and was formed by the ice cap that once covered most of Scandinavia.
4. Meteora, Greece
It is the largest archaeological site in Greece and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Only four of the originally 24 monasteries of Meteoras, which were built on almost inaccessible sandstone towers, are still preserved today. This kind of surreal landscape cannot be found anywhere else in the world!
5. Lapland, Finland
The largest reindeer population in the world, unique landscapes and frequent northern lights make Lapland the perfect place for a perfect vacation. I celebrated my 60th birthday here in an ice hotel and ate reindeer burgers. Every season is unique here. In winter it turns into a wonderland. The northernmost region of Lapland is a fantastic place to relax in nature. Technically, Lapland is not limited to Finland and includes Sweden, but Finland is a very tourist-friendly destination.
6. Sintra, Portugal
This amazing place seems straight out of a fantasy novel, where lush greenery, exotic mansions and charming palaces look through pine-clad hills. When you are here, don’t forget to stroll the cobbled streets and the gothic National Palace.
7. The Dolomites, Italy
The Dolomites stretch across northeast Italy and the landscape you see here is breathtaking. Anyone looking for adventure and want to get to know the rich cultural heritage of this region will find a perfect playground in this region. Let your time count here while you are here.
8. Kirkjufell, Iceland
It is one of the best places in Iceland to see the Northern Lights and also one of the most photographed places. The Kirchberg is a striking mountain that looks like a scoop of ice cream or a witch’s hat!
9. Las Medulas, Spain
Located about four hours outside of Madrid, the scenery will surprise you. The ancient Romans used this place for gold mining and created this beautiful but unusual landscape with their mining technique, which was unique at the time.
10. Micheldever Wood, England
A beautiful forest that surrounds Winchester, Hampshire is home to walking deer, woodland birds and beeches. The forest floor is covered with bluebells in spring, which makes the experience even more beautiful!
So I purposely left out all the great places in Germany on this list, but you can find my top sights in Germany here: https://europeantravel.blog/10-great-places-to-visit-in-germany/
