With coronavirus rates dropping in the US as more people get their vaccinations, our lives are finally looking a little more hopeful. Public spaces like bars, restaurants, cinemas and more are starting to open up with the necessary COVID-19 restrictions as concerts and other fun events are finally returning.

With some parts of the world finally moving to a new normal after a long and bleak year thanks to coronavirus, you may already be planning your next vacation to celebrate your vaccinations – and we can’t blame you. It was really a terrible year for all of us. Don’t book your ticket just yet, at least not before considering what travel restrictions are currently in the US.

To become international?

Do you want to go international? If you’re trying to leave the US, this is where the travel restrictions are toughest. Don’t worry, we totally understand if you are looking for a luxurious getaway after a year’s nightmare, but traveling far out of the country can get a little tricky. In fact, chances are you won’t even be able to get to your desired destination.

First, let’s look at the travel restrictions that have been imposed on the US for Europe. Fortunately, if you are vaccinated, you will have the opportunity to travel to the European Union during your summer vacation. Over a year after the shutdown of unnecessary travel from most countries, the block’s head said in an interview with the New York Times on Sunday that American citizens may soon have the opportunity to travel to Europe.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said: “All 27 Member States will unconditionally accept anyone vaccinated with EMA-approved vaccines.” These include Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. An exact timetable for the opening of tourist trips has not yet been confirmed, but it is likely that during the summer you will be at the Louvre or relaxing on the beaches of Barcelona.

Aside from Europe, there are many other countries that you can visit during this time. However, most countries require a negative COVID-19 test in the last seventy-two hours prior to your departure by anyone over the age of two. In addition, the CDC has given most of the available countries a level 4 rating. This is the greatest risk to the pandemic. So travel at your own risk.

It’s also important to remember that even if you are vaccinated, you can pass the disease on to those who are not, and that traveling to other countries with far lower vaccination rates can put other people at risk. While we understand that you might want to enjoy a getaway outside of the country, we recommend sticking to domestic travel at least for now.

Domestic travel

If you only plan to travel across the US, unlike other countries, travel restrictions are far less depending on which state you are traveling to. The CDC states that “state, local, and territorial governments may have travel restrictions, including testing requirements, stay-at-home orders, and arrival quarantine requirements.” So be sure to check this before buying this plane ticket.

The CDC also strongly recommends that you get a full vaccination before each trip. However, if you get on a plane before that time, the CDC strongly recommends people get tested for COVID-19 before and after your trip. For all people, vaccinated or not, you should still wear your mask and enforce the rules of social distancing.
