Mumbai: A 49-year-old man, married to three women, who allegedly flew to different cities in different cities to commit break-ins, was arrested. According to the police, he has so far committed over 205 thefts.
The defendant Salim Habib Qureshi alias Munna, who is from Bengaluru, was arrested on October 2 by officers from the Powai Police Station on the basis of information received. Previously, two of his accomplices – Gaus Shaikh (36) from Hyderabad and Taufiq Qureshi (31) from Govandi – were on the 30th of 18.
Investigators learned that the kingpin, Salim, committed such crimes in the homes of many high-profile figures, politicians in Madhya Pradesh and even in the home of gangster Chhota Rajan in 2001.
The trio was wanted for breaking into Niranjan Kardenvis’ house on the 13th floor of the Jal Vayu Vihar residential complex on the night of September 18. “Salim committed 25 break-ins in Mumbai, 102 in Pune, 65” in Telangana, 15 in Hyderabad, four in Surat-Rajkot, three in Nashik and one in Jaipur. He travels to and from different cities by plane, ”DCP Maheshwar Reddy told TOI.
Salim lives in Mumbai but settled in Hyderabad and later in Bengaluru after marrying three women. The accused was identified using CCTV footage. “He rented a car to get into the apartment building, pretended to be a visitor and managed to fool the security guard. He and his accomplices had kept an eye on the building and noticed that the light in Kardenvis’ apartment had been switched off for the past few days, ”said Chief Inspector AK Sonawane. The break-in was carried out after Kardenvis and his wife were on tour to Meghalaya.
After Salim committed a theft anywhere, he traveled to different states to avoid getting caught.
DCP Reddy formed a team consisting of Chief Inspector AK Sonawane, Inspector Srikrishna Hargude, Deputy Inspector Vinod Patil, Sub-Inspectors Vinod Lad and Yash Palwe, who jointly pursued Salim with technical assistance and managed to recover Rs 21.6 lakh of the booty .
